= FAQs :toc: center Below are frequently asked questions (FAQs) specific to CS50x. For FAQs specific to edX, see https://www.edx.org/student-faq. == Does CS50x have deadlines? Only one, when the course itself ends! You are welcome to take CS50x at your own pace, so long as you submit nine problem sets and submit a final project no later than 31 December 2014, per the https://x.cs50.net/2014/schedule[schedule]. == Does CS50x offer ID-verified certificates of achievement? CS50x doesn't offer https://www.edx.org/verified-certificate[ID-verified certificates of achievement] through edX, but CS50x does offer a http://www.extension.harvard.edu/cs50-certificate[CS50 Certificate] as well as http://www.extension.harvard.edu/courses/intensive-introduction-computer-science[course credit] from http://www.extension.harvard.edu/[Harvard Extension School]. See http://cdn.cs50.net/2014/x/references/compare.html[this chart] to compare options. == If I finish the course before 31 December 2014, will I receive an Honor Code Certificate before 31 December 2014? Yes, Honor Code Certificates will also be generated on 2 June 2014 and 3 September 2014 for students who finish the course before 31 December 2014. == How can I hide CS50's Facebook Group from my newsfeed? If you joined CS50's https://www.facebook.com/groups/cs50/[Facebook Group] but don't want to see new posts in your newsfeed, hover over any of CS50's posts in your newsfeed until image:menu.png[screenshot] appears in the post's top-right corner, then select *Unfollow CS50* from that menu, per the below. You'll still be in the group, so you can still visit it at https://www.facebook.com/groups/cs50 anytime you'd like. *Note that old posts won't disappear from your newsfeed (unless you remove them manually), but new posts will no longer appear. CS50 will thus gradually disappear from your newsfeed as other updates appear.* image::unfollow.png[screenshot] == How can I play videos faster or slower? If using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari (i.e., a browser that supports HTML5 and MP4), you _should_ see a *SPEED* control below each video, per the below. If not, your browser might not support different speeds, in which case you can download the video (as via the blue links beneath it) and use a client-side player like http://www.videolan.org/vlc/[VLC], whose *Playback* menu should allow you to alter playback speed. Beware, though, David talks fast at 1x, let alone 2x! image::speed.png[screenshot] == How can I turn off notifications from CS50's Facebook Group? If you joined CS50's https://www.facebook.com/groups/cs50/[Facebook Group] but don't want to receive notifications about it, simply visit https://www.facebook.com/groups/cs50/, click *Notifications* at top-right, and then select *Off*, per the below. You'll still be in the group, so you can still visit it at https://www.facebook.com/groups/cs50 anytime you'd like. image::notifications.png[screenshot] == If I took CS50x last year, can I re-submit (some) of my problem sets? Yes, just realize that some of 2014's problem sets are new, and some are a bit different. Be sure to read each problem set's spec to be sure your code is consistent with 2014's expectations. == Is CS50x free? Yes, CS50x and its https://www.edx.org/student-faq[Honor Code Certificate], as offered through https://www.edx.org/course/harvardx/harvardx-cs50x-introduction-computer-1022[edX], are indeed free. http://www.extension.harvard.edu/[Harvard Extension School]'s http://www.extension.harvard.edu/cs50-certificate[CS50 Certificate] and http://www.extension.harvard.edu/courses/intensive-introduction-computer-science[course credit] are not free but offer more in the way of support. See http://cdn.cs50.net/2014/x/references/compare.html[this chart] to compare options. == Is it too late to start CS50x? Nope, even if this is your first time here, you're not too late to begin! You are welcome to take CS50x at your own pace, per the https://x.cs50.net/2014/schedule[schedule], starting whenever you'd like, so long as you finish before 31 December 2014. == Is my n-year-old child too young to take CS50x? Hard to say! Odds are teenagers can do just fine. Younger students might need a hand from a parent, but we did have students as young as 10 years old taking CS50x last year. And even a bit younger! video::FBMFsc6e0xw[youtube,height=360,width=480] == What does edX's Honor Code Certificate look like? Odds are 2014's will resemble https://www.edx.org/sites/default/files/honor_code_cert.png[this sample]. Note that edX's Honor Code Certificates no longer include instructors' signatures. (http://www.extension.harvard.edu/[Harvard Extension School]'s http://www.extension.harvard.edu/cs50-certificate[CS50 Certificates] do.) == What if YouTube is blocked in my country? Even though edX's video player relies on YouTube, all of CS50x's videos are downloadable multiple resolutions (240p, 360p, 720p, and 1080p). Under any (blocked) video, look for blue links like the below, which will allow you to download videos from CS50x's servers. image::videos.png[screenshot]
