5. Overlaid Caption: Tom Rocks Maths asks Professor David J. Malan about his most obscure classes at college 🎓 Subtitles: TOM: What is the most obscure class you took at college? It doesn't have to be maths. DAVID: Two of my favorite classes, and they're not really off the beaten path, but they were relative for me, were taking Dramatic Arts 101, which was this theater class where in every week, you would learn something new about the theater, a week on writing, a week on directing, lighting, acting, everything. So that was so much fun, like a survey class. And then I also took as a senior, so a fourth-year, Latin, introductory Latin. And it was me and a bunch of first-years, because they were taking it as a required language requirement, and I was just taking it for fun. And I'd never studied Latin before. And so, for me, it was just such fun. I actually started to understand, ironically, English better, TOM: Of course, yeah. DAVID: all these years later because it gives you so much more of a mental model and a context for certain rules in English that I think we learned very, not even formally, informally but then made sense retrospectively.
